The focal points are the representatives of the network in the sub-regions. They are in charge of establishing closer contacts with the members of the network and report on the specificities of their sub-regions.

CREATION

The RAWSA Network, created in May 2019, has the objective to bring together organizations an individuals from the region willing to engage in promotion safe abortion.

We share the belief that every women has the right to decide on her body and have access to Sexual and Reproductive services without being prosecuted and/or imprisoned.

WHY THIS NETWORK?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 4,7% to 13,2% of maternal deaths are attributed each year to unsafe abortion.

22 millions of unsafe abortions occur on the world each year, and among them 47.000 women die as a result of complications in countries were abortion is illegal.

In MENA REGION

Maternal deaths were estimated at approximatively 9700 on 2017.

Regarding abortion, 80% of women of reproductive age live in countries with restrictive laws. In 55% of these countries abortion is allowed only to save women’s life and in 28% to protect her physical and/or mental health.

OUR POLICY

We consider that the repression of sexual and reproductive rights and the criminalization of abortion, as well as the impossibility to access safe abortion services constitute a violation of individual freedom and a cause of gender-based discrimination.

OUR OBJECTIVE

Limit restrictive policies related to sexual and reproductive rights including those on abortion – because they are in contradiction with the principles of Human Rights. We wish to remove discriminatory barriers SRH&R, HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning and contraceptives to access to safe reproductive health service.

By developing the exchange and sharing of experience between Sexual and Reproductive right advocates, including the right SRH&R, HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning and contraceptives to safe abortion.

By allowing a change of the environment for access to these rights and SRH&R, HIV/AIDS prevention, family planning and contraceptives to safe abortion for women in the MENA region.
